Hand Painted Custom Portrait

from $900.00

Each portrait is painted by me, Brooke Bowen, in the U.S.. Every painting is produced by hand in my studio using high quality handmade oil paints on archival canvas mounted on ACM panel ( some of the longest lasting surfaces on the market.)

100% hand-painted portrait on canvas from your photo. There is no digital painting or manipulation, no AI assistance, printing, or tracing used.

All portraits are painted using an ‘alla prima’ approach, which captures the feeling of the sitter and shows the texture of the oil painting process. With an ‘alla prima’ approach, there are also passages of the painting showing all stages of the piece from first to final layer. All paintings are painted on gesso-primed canvas, mounted on an ACM (aluminum composite material) panel that resists warping and denting that can happen with a stretched canvas.

The ability to paint from a photo is a skill that takes decades of practice. An original painting has lasting value, because like a painting in a museum it is made by hand with a refined skill that is not found in digital filters or AI.

What Photo Should I Send?

I can use any type of photo. A well-lit photo that is clear enough to see small facial features works best. If you are unsure about a photo, go through the ‘contact me’ form and I will respond.

What Size Should I Choose?

I paint faces at around 5-6 inches tall. If you want multiple people in the painting I recommend going to a larger size. I recommend a minimum of 12”x16” for two people, or a minimum of 16”x20” for four people.

How Long Does my Portrait Take?

It takes about two months from receiving your photo to shipping the painting. Since I work in oil paint and they take longer to dry, I like to keep the work in my studio until I feel comfortable shipping it to you. If your portrait needs a quick turn-around time, please use the ‘contact me’ form to check my availability.

What Do I Need To Do If I Want My Painting Framed?

If you would like your portrait framed and ready to hang straight out of the box, purchase a frame from my shop (LINK HERE), make sure the frame is the same size as the painting. I will install the painting and attach D-rings and wire, ready to hand the moment you have it in your hands.

Be aware that some countries charge additional tariffs and taxes in customs. Check your local laws to be aware of any additional costs when purchasing. Price includes shipping to most countries.
